Building Project Update - 10.1.07

Here is the pertinent information on the building project as of 10/01/2007

As you may or may not know, we recently mentioned in church the state of affairs of our Honoring His Name capital campaign. Below you’ll find a pie chart we shared with the body to show where we stand with our received and unfulfilled commitments.

I want to thank the one-third of givers who have either completely fulfilled their commitments or are right on schedule.  We would be in a world of trouble without your faithfulness and generosity!  Additionally, I want to thank the one-third of givers who are, on average, about 30 percent of the way through their commitments.  Since we are nearly at the 60 percent mark of our campaign, I want to encourage you to try your best to get to that mark so you are on schedule with your pledges. Please know we are very blessed by your participation!  I also want to encourage the remaining  one-third that we really need your help! It is not just a few of you; clearly you represent a significant section of our overall commitments.  We know things change and that there are unforeseen struggles that come our way, but we just wanted to give you a clear picture of the condition of our campaign and spur you on to find a way to fulfill your commitments.

When we began this journey in November 2005, we received pledges for $17,689,823.50.  It is vital that we receive these monies on time. We are now over the halfway point of the HHN Campaign, and this means that, to be on target, we should be 61 percent of the way through our commitments at $10.8 million received.  However, we are 34 percent of the way to our goal, having received $5,961,457.80, with $11,728,365.70 still to be given.

(You’ll find your personal accounting statement below. For up-to-date information on the HHN Capital Campaign, you can visit www.honoringhisname.com.)

Know that I’m so thankful for your initial desire to be involved in this campaign.  Please take a look at what you’ve pledged, and try to do your best to try to get your personal giving at least to the 60 percent mark, if at all possible.

As far as the building project itself, here is the latest information:

  • We are on schedule to close escrow on our land purchase for four additional acres of land at our campus’ west end.  The purpose of this land is primarily to provide much-needed parking and may include a subterranean parking structure.  This land purchase, coupled with our recent purchase of additional property between our present campus and the 118 freeway, will allow us to construct a road from Corbin Avenue to Porter Ranch Drive.  The road will serve as a main campus drive aisle, which will help alleviate traffic congestion on Rinaldi Street between services and after events.
  • Our development team—comprising church staff, architect, project manager, and city liaison—are preparing papers to submit to the city which will include a proposal for our new building design.
  • Our development and media arts teams recently toured a few churches on the east coast that implement “cutting edge” media technology to learn how we can enhance our main and multi-site satellite services.
  • Finally, our development team will be meeting with city officials in the Department of Parks and Recreation about the possibility of using a parcel of their land near our campus (at the intersection of Corbin and Trammell) for additional parking needs.

It is our genuine desire that Shepherd of the Hills will continue to be a church home that glorifies the Lord by faithfully striving to reach the lost.  As we continue to grow and therefore plan to accommodate that growth, please pray that our church leadership and development team will be led to the right partners to help achieve this goal.  As you are led, please pray for wisdom, integrity and like-minded dedication to this project for our:

·         project manager

·         architect and his firm

·         city planners

·         legal council

·         traffic consultants

·         engineers

·         construction company

·         city officials

Please join us in prayer not only for fruitful negotiations with the city, but also that Shepherd will continue to be a blessing to our city and find new ways to serve our community. And may God bless you as you use all that you have and all that you are to honor His name!
